The Faculty of Medicine of Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) invites applications for aW2 Professorship in Immunology of Respiratory Tract Infections as of the earliest possible date. Duties: We invite applications of highly motivated candidates integrating into a team of scientists and clinician-scientists focusing on lung and infection research. Successful candidates should have a vision for an innovative research program centered on innate and/or adaptive immunity of the lung in respiratory infections, with a focus on the mechanisms that impact host defense, tissue resilience, and return to homeostasis after infectious challenge. Additionally, a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate student education within the graduate program “Molecular Biology and Medicine of the Lung” (MBML; www.uni-giessen.de/fbz/fb11/forschung/graduierte/mbml) and “The Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences” (GGL) is expected. Moreover, candidates are expected to contribute to research priority fields of the Faculty of Medicine in Giessen (focus area “Cardiopulmonary System (Heart/Lung)”; area of potential “Infections, Inflammation and Active Substances”; accent areas “Reproduction” and “Reparation and Regeneration”). An integration of gender aspects in research and teaching is explicitly desired. The universities of Giessen and Marburg and the University of Applied Sciences in Central Hessen are working together in a research alliance (Research Campus of Central Hessen) as a structured cooperation based on coordinated priorities. It is expected that the applicant shows cooperativeness to university and department-wide collaborative projects. Requirements: A completed university degree, an outstanding doctorate and additional academic achievements (e.g. proven by a habilitation or in the form of relevant publications with peer review) in the field of immunology or lung infection are required. Excellent scientific track records and the success in the independent acquisition of external funding should be proven. In addition, leadership and coordination skills are required.
