The Faculty of Law invites applications for a

W1 Professorship (with W2 tenure track) in Civil Law

The position is offered with the earliest possible starting date for a period of six years pursuant to § 70 Para. 3 and 4 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG).

According to § 70 Para. 3 HessHG, applicants (m/f/d) should have gained a doctoral degree at an institution of higher education other than Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) or have been in academic employment at an institution other than JLU for at least two years after conferral of a doctoral degree.

The duration of applicants’ scientific activity during and after completion of the doctoral degree should not exceed nine years or the duration of activity after the doctorate should not exceed four years.

In the case of successful completion of the six-year W1 position, which is to be assessed in an evaluation procedure pursuant to § 70 Para. 2 HessHG, the appointment will be converted into a permanent W2 professorship.

Proficient knowledge of German is expected.

Duties:
The future incumbent is expected to represent Civil Law in teaching and research, based on his/her academic and didactic qualifications, in an excellent manner. Outstanding research achievements in Civil Law are expected.

Teaching duties primarily include designing and delivering lectures in the university’s preparation program for the First State Examination „UniRep“. Following the qualification phase, you will also be teaching in the faculty's basic and specialization studies.

In terms of research, you are expected to provide profound research activities in the core areas of Civil Law correspondent to your teaching duties and thus contribute significantly to the research profile of the faculty. Willingness to participate in the faculty’s and university’s research cooperation is desired.

Your duties also include coordination and development of the „UniRep“ programme in collegial cooperation and participation in academic self-administration.

In addition, you are expected to participate in the Giessen Graduate Centre for Social Sciences, Business, Economics and Law (GGS).

Requirements:

A university law degree and an outstanding doctoral degree are required. Through excellent State Examination results and/or relevant publications in the core areas of Civil Law, you guarantee high quality teaching and research in the area of compulsory Civil Law subjects.

You already have practical teaching experiences in which you have demonstrated your didactic skills, and you are open to digital teaching methods. Proof of further education in university didactics is advantageous.

Initial experiences in the acquisition of external funding is desirable.

In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under § 66 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) in conjunction with § 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
