Research Assistant
Vacancy Ref: 111988
Salary: Grade 6, £31,502 - £35,308 per annum

The School of Infection and Immunity, MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR) (http://www.cvr.ac.uk/) are looking to appoint a Research Assistant to play a key role in a research project that aims to evaluate the efficacy of an RNA biomarker matrix on self-taken “cervical smear samples” to identify cases of human papillomavirus-associated cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) at risk of progression to cancer.

This project is funded by the Chief Scientist Office.

The aim is to test if self-taken samples are suitable to be used in quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) tests and to develop a novel cellular biomarker panel that can be used as a triage test, alongside viral nucleic acid testing, to accurately predict regression or progression of cervical disease .

The successful candidate will have practical research experience in bioclinical/clinical virology research and will be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this challenging project, as opportunities allow.

The post is full time and has funding for up to 23 months.
