Basic Function: Teagasc are now recruiting for a a crop technician to support our highly successful and long running potato breeding programme which is a joint collaboration with IPM Potato group Ltd who market our varieties in over 50 countries globally. This programme produces new high yielding varieties with enhanced consumer and disease resistance traits using the most up to date techniques. The successful candidate will become part of a large and diverse project team technical support in the field, glasshouse and laboratory, across a range of tasks. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the seed crossing programme where these traits are introgressed into new varieties and also for evaluating and selecting the suitability of new potato varieties for these traits, particularly the processing and quality evaluation. The potato breeding program has implemented a program of marker assisted selection for disease resistance traits and the successful candidate will also assist with the development of new markers and in field selection.
