Microbiology Technologist

Basic Function

The appointee will work as part of a team on an industry funded project within the SFI funded APC Microbiome Ireland Spoke 1 Microbes to Molecules project and will be located in the Teagasc Food Research Centre, Moorepark, Fermoy Co. Cork.

The project investigates the role of live bio-therapeutics for the treatment of gastrointestinal and inflammatory diseases.

The technologist appointed will play an important role in the lab based research group which will involve the isolation, screening, and identification of bacteria from the GI tract and the characterisation of bioactive metabolites produced by a range of bacteria isolated from the mammalian GI tract and the wider environment.

They will become subject matter experts in this area and will be expected to engage with the funders and present results at project meetings.
Essential Qualifications
- Candidates must have a QQI Level 8 degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biochemistry or a related discipline.
Desirable Qualifications
-Research experience in Cell Culture would be a distinct advantage
