Soil Sustainability Technologist

Job Title Soil Sustainability Technologist (Temporary)

Basic Function

The primary role of the Research Technologist will be to collect data on knowledge gaps on sustainable soil and land management and to develop guidance on how to interact and engage with soil and land managers and stakeholders in order to reach the sustainable development goals and the aims of the EU Mission on Soil Health and Food.

The Research Technologist will help with identifying living examples (“living labs”) that support sustainable soil management including carbon accounting/ carbon farming in soils and to facilitate information flow from science to policy.

The technologist will gain experience of the needs of policy stakeholders, farmers and other stakeholders as they engage to overcome the various soil challenges in the adoption of climate-smart and sustainable soil management practices.

This post will include communication with a range of different stakeholders, including scientists, policymakers, farm advisory and farming community.

The Research Technologist will contribute the final project outputs such as the generation of science based soil management advice, and information transfer tools for stakeholders.

They will contribute to a number of scientific reports and publications which will help to underpin climate-smart and sustainable soil policy development and world leading agronomic and environmental sustainability advice for farmers and farm advisors.

Essential Qualifications
 
- Candidates must have a QQI Level 8 degree in geography, soil science, agricultural science, environmental science or a related discipline.

Desirable Qualifications
 
- A postgraduate degree and/or research experience in agri-environmental policy, social science with a focus on agri-enviornment stakeholders would be a distinct advantage
