Job title - Crop Bio-Transformation & Fermentation Research Officer (Permanent)
The successful candidate will establish a new bio-transformation/fermentation research programme focussed on optimising the malting/distilling of native grains that delivers added-value to the Irish tillage sector.
Based at the newly established brewing and distilling hub, the successful candidate will establish their own research group by defining an innovative research strategy and acquiring physical and human resources through internal/external funding.
They will also develop a national and international network of collaborators through high impact publications and contributions to international conferences, while also promoting/co-ordinating the use of the facilities by industry stakeholders.
Highly productive, the environmental sustainability of the Irish tillage sector and its produce is strong, contributing significantly to the green credentials of Irish food production.
However, there is a strategic need to add value to existing crop production systems through the development of novel value opportunities that tillage farmers can benefit from.
This role will make a significant contribution to achieving that goal.
- Candidates must have a QQI Honours Level 8 degree in chemistry, food science, brewing and distilling or related subject.
- PhD in a relevant subject.
- Post-doctoral experience in bio-transformation/fermentation.
- A malting qualification such as the IBD General Certificate in Malting.
