The Faculty of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies invites applications for a

W2 Professorship (with W3 tenure track) in Music Education

provisionally limited to six years as of the earliest possible date. Reference is made to 64 Para. 1 and 4 Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG) and to conditions of employment based on 62 HHG. In case of eligibility, which will be evaluated according to 64 Para. 2 HHG, a permanent W3 Professorship will be offered subsequently. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.

Duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to represent the field of Music Education in its entire scope in research and teaching. It is desirable that the candidate is able to connect to the focuses of the Institute for Musicology and Music Education at the Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU), particularly didactics of contemporary art music and popular music, community music and/or music-related education and motivation research.
Furthermore, commitment is expected in the area of promoting young researchers (doctoral and post-doctoral students) especially in cooperation with the graduate centres of the JLU. Required is willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation in the area of teacher training programs (with the three other basic sciences of political science, psychology and sociology in addition to pedagogy, as well as with the subject didactics) and cooperation in the Teacher Training Centre (ZfL) as well as in the Giessen Campaign for Teacher Training (GOL), the Giessen Graduate Centre for Social Sciences, Business, Economics and Law (GGS) and in the Giessen Graduate Centre for Humanities (GGK)/International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC).

The professorship is expected to actively participate in relevant international cooperation of the JLU and should build up his/her own international relationships with the aim of improving the international profile of the faculty.
In teaching, the candidate will have the main task of offering and organizing relevant seminars and classes for the bachelor's and master's degree programs both major and minor, as well as for the teacher training programs (L1, L2/L5, L3). In addition to supervising graduate theses and doctoral dissertations, the candidate will also be involved in the qualifying examinations and practical module examinations for the teaching degree programs and will assume primary responsibility for academic self-administration.

Requirements:
The successful candidate requires a doctorate with merit as well as additional pertinent academic achievements, including internationally received research as well as publications in acknowledged national and international journals. Independent experience and success in the acquisition of external funding should be proved. The ability to reflect theoretically on music education is particularly desired. Moreover, the sensibility and appreciation of gender aspects in research and teaching is required.

In accordance with 62 Para. 4 HHG, proof of three years of practical experience in school teaching is regarded a requirement for a position with responsibilities concerning school pedagogy, teaching methodology or educational sciences.

In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under 60 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG) in conjunction with 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
