Senior Research Fellow in Nuclear Characterisation and Decommissioning

A post is available for a highly motivated researcher of outstanding calibre to work on the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)-funded NNUF-EXACT project, based at the University’s Waterfront Campus at the National Oceanography Centre (Southampton).
The NNUF-EXACT (Next Generation Accelerated Characterisation Technologies) project will develop a world-leading radiochemistry facility focused on the development of automated and rapid measurement techniques for in-situ, on-site and off-site radionuclide measurement, and the design and testing of technologies and enhanced methodologies for separation, characterisation and remediation of complex nuclear waste forms.
The successful applicant will be expected to support the project investigators in establishing the Facility, manage day-to-day operations, organise work schedules, and liaise with University and industry partners to develop a thriving Facility user community, supporting a range of cutting-edge research projects in nuclear waste characterisation and decommissioning.
You must have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in radiochemistry, geochemistry, or a relevant area of geology, environmental science, chemistry, engineering or physics, together with an ability to manage, motivate and coordinate research or laboratory teams.
Expertise in radionuclide analysis and radioactive materials characterisation, and relevant experience working with or in the nuclear industry, would also be beneficial.
The successful candidate will have full access to top class characterisation and testing facilities in the School of Ocean and Earth Science and GAU-Radioanalytical (https://www.southampton.ac.uk/oes/research/facilities/gau.page) and will be integrated fully into the School and the wider NNUF-EXACT academic and industry consortium.
This post is funded by EPSRC and is full time fixed term until the 31st March 2023 with the potential for the post to be extended further.
