MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research
College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences

The CVR is an international virology research centre with a collegiate critical mass of researchers dedicated to the multidisciplinary study of viruses and viral diseases.

The CVR is beginning a major recruitment drive for independent investigators at all levels.

For this specific post, the appointee will have an outstanding track record and experience of conducting and leading a world-class programme of research in any area of virology/ viral disease, complementing the current programmes of the CVR in either basic, clinical or translational research. Applicants working at the interface between computational biology and viral diseases are also encouraged to apply. Appointment will be made at either Senior Lecturer, Reader or Professorial level depending on the experience and track record of the candidate. Outstanding candidates at the Professorial level will be considered for the title of “Bill Jarrett Chair of Infectious Diseases”.

This is the first of several positions we will advertise as part of our future research planning. Enquiries are therefore welcome from either individual investigators or from teams of investigators interested in joining the CVR.

The CVR is located in the picturesque Garscube Estate in Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland and the third largest in the UK. Glasgow has recently been named the top cultural and creative centre in the UK in a European Commission report (https://composite-indicators.jrc.ec.europa.eu/cultural-creative-cities-monitor/). The same study rated Glasgow as the top city in Europe for openness, tolerance and trust. And the New York Times ranked Glasgow in the top 10 cities to visit worldwide in 2018 (https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/travel/places-to-visit.html).
