Research Technologist - Animal Reproductive Physiology (Ref: ARP/TECH/0719)


Teagasc is seeking to recruit a motivated and skilled permanent Technologist to support physiology research and teaching roles in Moorepark.

The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team and will be responsible for collecting field experimental data from both research and commercial herds, and collating into electronic files.

Measurements include body weight and condition score, ultrasound exams of the ovaries and uterus, vaginal discharge scores, blood sample collection and a wide range of other animal measurements.

The successful candidate will also be expected to undertake some basic laboratory procedures on collected samples, and participate in practical demonstrations for undergraduate courses.


•Provide expert technical support to the reproductive physiology research programme.
•Perform measurements of body weight and condition score, ultrasound exams of the ovaries and uterus, vaginal discharge scores, and collect blood and tissue samples.
•Perform laboratory analysis on samples collected.
•Liaise with other members of the team and organize farm visits for data collection.
•Collate all measurements into electronic files.
•Participate in undergraduate teaching roles.
•Engage with dairy farmer groups regarding management of dairy cattle reproduction.
•Contribute to writing of scientific papers and research grant proposals in the area of reproductive physiology.



Candidates must have at least a Level 8 degree in Agricultural Science or a related discipline.


A postgraduate degree and/or research experience in Animal Science would be a distinct advantage.
