Postdoctoral Research Associate in Nanomaterials Research
Job number: ACAD103968
Division/School: School of Civil, Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering
Contract type: Fixed Term Contract
Working pattern: Full time
Salary: £33,199 - £37,345
Closing date for applications: 30th May 2019
Seeking motivated and creative materials scientists, chemists or engineers who are interested in developing materials solutions to problems in sustainable energies and environmental remediation.
There are up to two positions available (12 months initially, with potential for extension to up to 2 years), to join an externally-funded project to develop smart nanoporous materials for applications in energy.
The project focusses on the development of functional porous nanomaterials that can contain gases at exceedingly high densities which will be used to address current challenges in hydrogen storage for renewable energy and low-carbon transportation applications, or can be useful for gas sensing or catalysis.
The project will involve experimental work (materials synthesis, characterisation and testing) and data analysis to improve design of these nanomaterials systems and optimise the gas trapping ability of these systems, to deliver a new class of gas storage systems for a range of practical applications.
The successful candidates will have a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science or Engineering with experience in the synthesis, characterisation and properties testing of porous materials and their interactions with hydrogen.
Good team-work is essential, as is the ability to solve problems and work independently.
The candidate(s) must have excellent communication skills, and proven experience in writing papers and giving conference presentations.
Experience of working in gas sorption, synthesis and testing of porous carbon nanomaterials, zeolites, MOFs or porous polymers is desirable.
The project may involve some travel to conferences, for collaborative work and experiments at large scale facilities.
Interviews will be planned for the week starting 10th June 2019.
