Academic Manager - UK-China AMR Hub

This post is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and able research programme manager to join an international multidisciplinary academic team in Population Health Sciences, Bristol Medical School.

The successful candidate may be appointed on either academic (ACAD103816) or professional services (SUPP104985) pathway depending on their experience to date.

The main job purpose is to manage and coordinate the UK components of a cross-institutional research and capacity-building programme focusing on antibiotic resistance (ABR) in China.

The UK-China AMR Hub on Strategies to Reduce the Burden on Antibiotic Resistance in China, led by Professors Helen Lambert in Bristol and Bo Zheng at Peking University in Beijing, will start in February 2019.

The Hub is funded for three years under a joint UKRI (UK)-NSFC (China) Newton Fund initiative and includes three work packages, as well as training and research capacity-building activities.

The work packages (WP) focus on:- (WP1) developing and testing the effectiveness of an intervention to modify antibiotic prescribing among health professionals and reduce antibiotic consumption through a randomised controlled trial (led by Anhui Medical University); (WP2) human exposure to antibiotics from environmental and therapeutic sources and policy contexts of antibiotic usage (led by Fudan University); (WS3) estimating trends of antibiotic use and resistance in hospital settings and estimating the economic burden of ABR and cost-effectiveness of different intervention strategies in China (led by Peking University).

UK Hub partners (at Bristol, Leicester, Bath, Southampton, Public Health England and North Bristol NHS Trust) will collaborate on these Work Packages and build research capacity through short-term training and workshops, staff exchanges and doctoral support.

The post holder will undertake core research management tasks and be responsible for managing UK contributions to the Hub and, in conjunction with their counterparts in China, for coordinating the research processes needed to ensure successful and timely completion of Hub activities.
