The School is seeking to appoint an outstanding Biomedical scientist who has established or has the potential to develop an independent research programme.

This programme can be in any area, to complement the School’s internationally-renowned research themes in: Cardiovascular and Cell Signalling and Neuroscience (see:

The successful applicant will be expected to develop innovative teaching on the School’s degree courses, particularly our exceptionally successful Pharmacology degree programme (with a student satisfaction score of 100% in the last three National Student Surveys, see:

We welcome applications from research fellows and postdoctoral researchers who have established independent profiles, as well as from those already in established positions.

The position will be based in the Biomedical Sciences Building with access to imaging, proteomics and genomics core facilities; access to large and small animal in vivo laboratories; and human studies facilities.

The School has excellent facilities for investigating, at molecular through to whole animal levels, cardiovascular, circadian and motor function, as well as for pain, sleep, learning, memory and cognition studies.

Drug discovery plays a key role in many of these activities within the School.

There are current PhD training programmes funded by the BBSRC, MRC, Wellcome Trust and BHF, with many linked to other Schools in the University and beyond.

Successful applicants can also join larger research communities within the University and associated NHS Trusts, such as the Bristol Heart Institute or Bristol Neuroscience.
