Teagasc Post- Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 (PD1) - PD1/BM3/AT/0818
Basic Function of the post:
The successful post-doctoral fellow will work on a SFI funded Bioeconomy Research Centre (BEACON). The PD will contribute to the development of industry focused collaboration with participating SMEfs. Key elements of the role of the successful post-doctoral fellow will include the following:
To develop clean and green extraction technology for seaweed powder and extract containing bioactives.
To develop high quality seaweed powder for phytopharma, cosmeceutical, nutraceutical or functional food applications.
Duties & Responsibilities specific to this project:
To scale up the production process for seaweed powder and target bioactives.
To become familiar with the aims and objectives of the research topic, acquire an in-depth knowledge and understanding of background material and consulting up to date papers, reviews and patents
To draw up a plan for experimental execution of the work packages and identify and source
all the necessary facilities and resources
To order equipment, instruments, accessories and materials required for the work programme
To provide results and reports for consideration at monthly progress review meetings
To cooperate with other members of the team in delivering the main objectives and achieving the targets set out for the project.
To review progress on a continuous basis and if appropriate to revise original plans and schedules in consultation with the project supervisor and members of the team

PhD in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical, Biochemical Engineering or related discipline
Relevant research experience not to exceed 3 yearsf post-PhD
Experience in extraction of bioactive compounds from marine algae
Experience in setting own research agenda
