Basic Function of the post:
To undertake research and collate results relating to the up-scaling to pilot scale of project results related to the assessment of fish processing by-products, specifically bloodwaters from pelagic processing. Alternative strategies for recovery, generation and optimising development of these sources will be carried out by the chosen candidate.
Research will include use of pilot scale filtration skids, proximate analysis on source materials, amino acid profiling of source materials, protein characterisation (MS, SDS PAGE), enrichment and characterisation of proteins and other potentially useful bioactive and techno-functional compounds including vitamins, minerals and small molecules. All results will culminate into cost-benefit analyses of alternative strategies concerning marine processing by-product handling, utilisation and application with a view of making recommendations to pelagic and other fish processors.
Duties & Responsibilities specific to this project:
Operate pilot scale equipment concerning enrichment and filtration.
Characterise source materials, extracts and novel products.
Process source materials and develop commercially relevant SOPs to generate products.
