The appointee will assist Teagasc in developing a milk production system in which automatic milking and cow grazing is integrated. This will include supervision of the daily operation of the automated milking research programme, including herd, grazing and milking management tasks. It will also include some data collation and management tasks both on the research farm and on commercial monitor farms, as well as dissemination of AMS management practices to visiting groups and dairy farmers when required and other tasks and responsibilities as deemed necessary.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Acquire in depth knowledge of the day to day running of the automated milking system.
Acquire a full understanding of grassland management.
Manage and refine the integration of automated milking and precision grazing.
Develop and apply protocols for routine tasks associated with automated milking.
Perform experimental recording.
Collect and manage research data.
Collect monitor farm data.
Engage with farmer groups on milking robot management.
Assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service charter and action plan.
Actively participate in the annual business planning and Performance Management Development System (PMDS) processes.
Fully co-operate with the provisions made for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of themselves, fellow staff and non-Teagasc staff and co-operate with management in enabling Teagasc to comply with legal obligations. This includes full compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Safety Statement.
Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Candidates must have a Level 6 Specific Purpose in Farm Administration and/or a Level 6 Advanced Cert in Agriculture or a related discipline.
People and resource management skills.
A Level 7 qualification in agriculture science would be a distinct advantage.
Broad knowledge of automation and leadership skills.
