The technician appointed will work as part of a team in the Technical Services Laboratory based in the Food Chemistry and Technology Department located in Teagasc Food Research Centre, Moorepark, Fermoy, Co. Cork. They will be required to analyse primarily milk and dairy samples generated from ongoing research projects along with samples received from industry clients. They will be required to participate in the maintenance of our ISO17025 quality management system, as well as our safety management system. They must be willing to maintain a high level of customer service and will be responsible for managing and ordering consumables required by the laboratory.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Register samples upon reception into the laboratory.
Perform required tests in an accurate manner.
Comply with all standard operating procedures.
Coordinate and perform a variety of independent and team activities involved in the collection, analysis, documentation and some interpretation of information/results.
Compile data, prepare test reports and communicate with clients.
Ensure relevant laboratory records are updated.
Participate in External proficiency tests.
Contribute to laboratory compliance with ISO17025, while recognising opportunities for continual improvement within the quality management system.
Maintain cleanliness of the Laboratory.
Conduct internal quality and safety audits.
Assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service charter and action plan.
Actively participate in the annual business planning and Performance Management Development System (PMDS) processes.
Fully co-operate with the provisions made for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of themselves, fellow staff and non-Teagasc staff and co-operate with management in enabling Teagasc to comply with legal obligations. This includes full compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Safety Statement.
Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Candidates must have a Level 6 qualification in Science or a related discipline.
People and resource management skills.
A Level 7 qualification in Food Science, Agri-Food Science, Food Science and Technology, etc. would be a distinct advantage.
Experience in working with Dairy products.
