Senior Research Fellow for Clinical Ethics and Law at Southampton (CELS)
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced qualitative researcher to join the expanding CELS team in the Faculty of Medicine. We are an interdisciplinary research group focusing on exploring the ethical, legal and social issues arising from the integration of genomic technology into clinical practice and wider society.
The post holder will be responsible for coordinating the researcher portfolio for CELS and be the senior research fellow on a Wellcome Trust funded study entitled ‘Facilitating ethical preparedness in genomic medicine’, the EPPiGEN project. This is a collaborative award in Humanities and Social Science held with Brighton and Sussex Medical School and as such will require close liaison with researchers and the leads across the two settings: Professors Anneke Lucassen and Bobbie Farsides. The overall purpose of the research will be to develop an understanding of the concept of ethical preparedness through the engagement of patients, practitioners and policy makers in the issues that the concept raises. The post holder will be involved in shaping the design of the study, appointing a research fellow to work with and supervising a clinical PhD fellowship.
Applicants will need to be educated to PhD level or equivalent professional qualifications and experience; have a track record of published research; be able to demonstrate their ability to organise high quality research; their ability to engage in conceptual thinking; meet deadlines and lead a team of researchers.
