Teagasc Post Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 (PD1) Culturomics (Ref: PD1/CTM/MPK/0418)
Basic Function of the post:
This post-doctoral scientist will be involved in APC Microbiome research, and will work as part of a team focusing on probiotic cultivation, assessment and formulation. In addition the post-doctoral scientist will work on the development of live microbe-based product formulations, determination of gut microbiota composition following dietary intervention and functional potential of the microbiota, including enumeration, isolation and characterization of commensal bacteria.
Experience in microbiology, molecular biology, analysis of gut microbiota composition and functional potential is relevant to the role. The appointee will perform microbiota and faecal metabolite analysis.
Duties & Responsibilities specific to this project:
Develop and assess live microbe-based product formulations to determine gut microbiota composition following dietary intervention.
Determine functional potential of the gut microbiota, following dietary intervention.
Conduct studies on enumeration, isolation and characterization of commensal bacteria.
Conduct research relating to gut microbiota analysis and the elucidation of the functionality of select bacteria.
Perform statistical analysis and analysis and annotation of high throughput sequencing data.
Mentor and assist students and early-stage researchers in the research group.
PhD in microbiology, biochemistry, nutrition or a related discipline.
Relevant research experience not to exceed 3 years post-PhD.
Evidence of teamwork and collaboration with relevant partners.
Expertise in gut microbiology and molecular biology.
