Teagasc Post Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 (PD1) - Analytical Chemistry/Marine Natural Product Chemistry - (Ref. PD1/EMA/AT/0418)
Basic Function of the post:
The Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority is seeking to fill a short term position at Teagasc Food Research Centre Ashtown for an analytical chemist or a marine natural product chemist. The successful candidate will be involved in the extraction and fractionation of bioactive compounds from microalgae species. The primary role of the candidate is to develop a range of analytical methods for structural characterisation of various organic molecules produced by microalgae. The candidate will work in tandem with the research partners within the EU consortium comprising of Spain, Portugal, France and UK in meeting the deliverables of the project.
Duties & Responsibilities specific to this project:
Carryout research activities associated with the research project.
Participate in a team of researchers in on-going research activities where appropriate.
Deliver high quality research outputs leading to peer reviewed publication(s).
Additional Duties & Responsibilities:
Interpret research findings and prepare scientific and popular press publications.
Disseminate research findings to a variety of audiences as appropriate.
Assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service Charter and action plan.
Comply with all relevant Teagasc policies and procedures.
Actively participate in the Teagasc Post Doctoral Fellowship programme and review processes, and to undertake all Post Doctoral fellowship training and associated duties as agreed in the Training & Development Plan.
Take up additional duties as they may arise and be assigned by management.
PhD in Analytical Chemistry or Marine Natural Products, or cognate fields.
Relevant research experience not to exceed 3 years post-PhD.
Experience in marine natural products.
Experience in setting own research agenda.
