Teagasc Post Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 (PD1) - Ovigen - (Ref. PD1/OVI/AY/0418)Basic Function of the post: The successful candidate will undertake and disseminate the research findings of the INZAC flock, a breeding flock with the objective of comparing Irish versus New Zealand genetically elite ewes. The research scientist will be responsible for the collection of field data on pasture growth and animal performance on the INZAC flock and will assist in the management of the flock. Other responsibilities will include the statistical analysis of the field data, as well as, the dissemination of the research to national and international stakeholders. Duties & Responsibilities specific to this project: Coordinate research conducted as part of the INZAC flock. Assist in the management of the INZAC flock. Submit peer review publications for high impact journals and disseminate research findings at scientific and non-scientific events. Coordinate completion of the INZAC flocks research objective to the satisfaction of the stakeholders. Contribute to the teamwork and team-spirit of the Animal and Grassland Research and Innovation Centre Athenry. Additional Duties & Responsibilities: Interpret research findings and prepare scientific and popular press publications. Disseminate research findings to a variety of audiences as appropriate. Assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service Charter and action plan. Comply with all relevant Teagasc policies and procedures. Fully co-operate with the provisions made for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of themselves, fellow staff and non-Teagasc staff and co-operate with management in enabling Teagasc to comply with legal obligations. This includes full compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Safety Statement. Actively participate in the Teagasc Post Doctoral Fellowship programme and review processes, and to undertake all Post Doctoral fellowship training and associated duties as agreed in the Training & Development Plan. Take up additional duties as they may arise and be assigned by management. Person Specification Essential PhD in animal breeding or a related discipline. Relevant research experience not to exceed 3 years post-PhD Desirable Experience in coordinating production systems experiments.
