Teagasc Contract Research Officer - Dairy Cow Mastitis Scientist - (Ref: DCMS/MP/0118)
To develop, lead and implement a research programme in the area of dairy cow mastitis with particular emphasis on:
Mastitis control programmes.
Diagnosis, Pathogenesis and immunology of mastitis.
Prevention and treatment of mastitis.
Udder health and milking performance.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a dairy cow mastitis research programme.
Design, manage and analyse animal production experiments.
Manage staff and resources assigned to the programme.
Identify opportunities for cutting-edge research to address these knowledge gaps.
Attract external funding with the objective of creating critical mass by building a dynamic team of post-doctoral researchers(s) and post-graduate student(s).
Develop and maintain active collaborative contacts with the relevant national and international research communities.
Publish and interpret research results.
Identify and develop future research opportunities as they may arise.
Contribute to the teamwork and team-spirit in the dairy research programme at Moorepark, and to foster and add to further collaboration and integration.
Assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service charter and action plan.
Fully co-operate with the provisions made for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of themselves, fellow staff and non-Teagasc staff and co-operate with management in enabling Teagasc to comply with legal obligations. This includes full compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Safety Statement.
Actively participate in the annual business planning and Performance Management Development System (PMDS) processes.
Take up additional duties as they may arise and be assigned by management.

Honours level 8 degree in veterinary science/animal science or other related discipline.
Research skills: data management, analysis and experimentation.
Post-graduate experience in dairy cow mastitis research.
Research skills: general laboratory skills.
