The Bristol Cyber Security Group, led by Professor Awais Rashid, is seeking to appoint a post-doc on human aspects of trust in distributed ledger technologies. The group forms part of the Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE-CSR) at Bristol.
You will join a major programme of research on studying the human aspects of trust in distributed ledger technologies. The post is part of the EPSRC-funded HoSEM (Household Supplier Energy Market) project. The project aims to study the disruptive potential of distributed ledger technologies in democratising the energy market through household-level peer-to-peer energy trading.
You will conduct in-depth research into the conditions under which individuals or groups may be empowered to act in such an energy market, the form such empowerment will take (e.g., geographic/neighbourhood groups vs. virtual ones, e.g., likeminded “greens”), and how will it be achieved, i.e., in this marketplace, what will be the role of other stakeholders such as energy companies, government, and climate change advocates?
Specifically, you will:
• study how users form trust and coalesce into groups, and how groups demonstrate collective notions of trust;
• undertake experimentation to study how factors such as perceived fairness, regulation and market structures impact trust across individuals and group;
• prototype novel user interfaces to support informational needs and trust amongst individuals and groups.
The project offers an exciting opportunity to combine research concepts and ideas with real world problems and their solutions.
You will collaborate with researchers within the project team at Bristol as well as collaborators at University of Exeter and EDF Energy. You will also work in collaboration with a critical mass of researchers working on human aspects of cyber security within the Bristol Cyber Security Group and the wider Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research. The Group participates in several major initiatives, including leading projects as part of the Research Institute on Science of Cyber Security (RISCS) and the Research Institute on Trustworthy Cyber-Physical Systems (RITICS), co-leading the Security and Safety stream within the UK Research Hub on Cyber Security of Internet of Things and leading the programme of work on developing a Cyber Security Body of Knowledge (CyBOK). There is a strong expectation that you will actively contribute to the strong profile of Cyber Security at Bristol and its inter-disciplinary ethos through participation in the development and publication of research results.
This post is offered on a full time, open-ended contract for up to 18 months, and is due to start on 01 March 2018 or as soon as thereafter.
