Applications are invited for the post of a postdoctoral research fellow to join the research team at the Tony Davies High Voltage Laboratory at the University of Southampton.
The successful applicant must have a PhD, or equivalent experience, in the area of thermal and electrical behaviour of high voltage plant. Expertise in the analysis of site data, and the use of numerical modelling tools such as finite element analysis would also be highly desirable. The role will involve conducting research on a large, industrially funded research project for a high profile UK sponsor, as well as supporting the enterprise agenda of the laboratory.
In addition to the above specific research experience, the successful applicant should also be able to present research results at group meetings and conferences, generate project reports, write up research results for publication in leading peer-viewed journals and to work proactively with colleagues across the laboratory to achieve the required project outcomes. The nature of the role will require working across disciplines and will include engagement with multiple suppliers, contractors and site personnel. Excellent organisational and communication skills are hence a requirement.
Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
