W3-Professorship for General Entomology

In a joint appointment process based on a cooperation agreement, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences and Environmental Management of Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) and the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung (SGN) in Frankfurt/Main invites applications for the position of a

W3-Professorship for General Entomology

at the earliest possible date. Reference is made to § 61 section 7 Hessisches Hochschulgesetz (HHG) and to conditions of employment based on § 62 HHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.

The successful candidate will be appointed as a university professor at the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen and granted leave by JLU to work as a leading scientist of the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung in Frankfurt/Main. He/she is involved in teaching with two semester week hours and in the training of young scientists in the field of environmental sciences at the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen.

The successful candidate will be in charge of representing the area of general entomology in research and teaching, and of heading the Department of Terrestrial Zoology at the Senckenberg Research Institute and the Naturmuseum Frankfurt/Main.

We are looking for a personality that, thanks to its outstanding scientific qualifications, strengthens the competencies of the involved institutions in the mentioned field. The candidate strengthens the molecular and classical biodiversity research in insects at the SGN, in particular water insects. Experience with research in the field of systematics, population genetics, and molecular biodiversity of water insects is expected. Experiences in genomic biodiversity research, water ecology and/or applied research are desirable. Furthermore, several years of experience in the management of a larger research group/ research area as well as pertinent international publications in designated journals. Independent achievements in the acquisition of peer-reviewed projects by national and international sponsors are also expected (e.g. DFG, EU). Particularly, well-known scientists with international experience are addressed.
