Contract Technician - Dairy Levy (Ref: CT/DLVY/0817)
The successful candidate will be primarily involved in gas chromatography analysis within the flavour chemistry unit and associated fatty acid analysis laboratories at Teagasc Food Research Centre Moorepark. They will be required to manage sample input, throughput, analysis, data processing and reporting. They will also be actively involved in method development, laboratory safety, and training in the safe operation of gas chromatography to good laboratory practice.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
•To analyse foods and beverages for volatile aromatic/flavour compounds using different sample preparation techniques, gas chromatographic (GC) techniques, with a particular emphasis on GC-Mass spectrometry (MS).
•To analyse and quantify total fatty acid and free fatty acid content of a wide range of dairy products.
•To operate and manage olfactometry analysis of foods and beverages.
•To manage efficient operation of GC systems within the Food Programme in Teagasc Food Research Centre Moorepark.
•Candidates must have a Level 6 qualification in Food, Science or Analytical Science or a related discipline.
•A Level 7 or 8 qualifications in (a relevant discipline) would be a distinct advantage.
