Basic Function of the post:
To carry out a systematic literature review and meta-analysis of the putative human health benefiting compounds in beef and lamb. These include but are not limited to: protein, vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids.
To identify and collate existing data sets from past Irish research studies on beef and lamb that can be used to carry out preliminary analyses on a limited range of putative human health benefiting compounds.
To liaise with project collaborators and assist with the preparation of the periodic reporting requirements of the project.
Duties & Responsibilities specific to this project:
Assembly of the literature on the chemical composition of beef and lamb with a focus on those compounds with a putative human health benefit
Liaison with national experts on specific human health benefiting compounds
Conducting appropriate meta-analyses of the published data
Assembly of relevant Irish datasets and conducting a preliminary analysis
Assisting with compilation of periodic progress reports
PhD in a food-related discipline with a strong emphasis on data analysis, or in statistics/related discipline
Relevant research experience not to exceed 3 years post-PhD
Knowledge of food/meat chemical composition
Interest in the relationship between food composition and health
